The District Council of Grant is considering options for the ongoing management of the community land known as the Cattle Reserve on Dingley Dell Road, Port MacDonnell. Council invites Expressions of Interest for the leasing of the vacant land identified as Part Sections 817 and 866, Hundred McDonnell for stock adjustment, grazing and/or associated agricultural purposes. The land spans 88.12 hectares as shown in the map to the left.

Background

The land in question was awarded to a local charity group on a year-by-year lease between 2004-2016. Following a resolution of Council on 18 December 2017 a four-year lease, with four years right of renewal was awarded to a private entity. That lease including all renewals, expired on 28 February 2026. Council is now proposing a new lease on a 5-year term with an additional 5-year right of renewal.

Special conditions of the previous lease included requirements to annually fertilise the land and replace or undertake significant maintenance on, approximately 300m of fencing, both at the lessee’s expense. By resolution of Council, $10,000 of the annual rent received under the lease was to be distributed for charitable purposes.
