Background

As part of the amendments to the Local Government Act 1999, a new Behavioural Management Framework has recently been implemented for all Local Government across South Australia. One part of this requires Councils to consider, within six months of a general election, whether or not they would adopt a Behavioural Support Policy. At the Ordinary Council Meeting of 17 April 2023, the District Council of Grant resolved to adopt a Behavioural Support Policy, and following a number of workshops, endorsed the attached Policy at the Ordinary Council Meeting of 19 June 2023.

The Behavioural Support Policy sets out Council’s approach to appropriate behaviour for Council members. Whilst this Policy is not compulsory under legislation, District Council of Grant Elected Members place a strong focus on moving forward in this Council term as a strong and unified team with a focus on “the community at the heart of everything we do”. This Policy is a reflection of that commitment. This is further evidenced by the Elected Member Charter which was also endorsed at the 19 June 2023 Ordinary Council Meeting, and shows the Elected Members commitment to each other in relation to behaviour and teamwork for the duration of this Council term.
