Draft Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2026-2030

Background
The District Council of Grant is committed to building an environment where everyone feels welcomed, valued, and empowered to participate in community life. All Councils are required to prepare a Disability Access and Inclusion Plan (DAIP) outlining how they will allow people with disability to access and be included in Council places, services, events, jobs and representation.
The State Government’s Disability Inclusion Plan 2025–2029 provides a framework built around five key domains that collectively aim to support a more inclusive and equitable community. The District Council of Grant’s draft DAIP 2026–2030 aligns with these domains and incorporates accountability measures, including annual reporting to the State Government. These measures support transparency, allow progress to be monitored and strengthen Council’s commitment to continuous improvement.
Council acknowledges the valuable contribution of the Access and Inclusion Advisory Panel in shaping the 2026–2030 DAIP. Established in 2022, the Advisory Panel brings together Council's Elected Members, organisational representatives and community members with lived experience of disability. Their input ensures the plan reflects diverse perspectives and real-life experiences.
What is Proposed
The draft Disability Access and Inclusion Plan 2026–2030 outlines how Council will embed access and inclusion across all aspects of its operations and community engagement over the next four years. The draft DAIP has been prepared by the District Council of Grant and reflects Council’s ongoing commitment to fostering an accessible, inclusive, and equitable community for all.
The draft Plan includes the things Council will do to make our District more accessible and inclusive, like:
- Providing welcoming events and programs for people with disability
- Improving the accessibility of buildings, footpaths, car parking, toilets, parks and playgrounds
- Raising disability awareness in Council and the community
- Asking for input from people with disability in ways that are accessible to them
- Making our documents, communication and website more accessible
- Finding ways for people with disability to volunteer or work at Council
- Providing information about local disability services and programs
- Working with other organisations to improve access and inclusion
- Offering grants to improve disability inclusion
- Supporting people with disability to be safe in emergencies
