Inner Townships Master Plan

Help us shape our Inner Townships...

Council completed the Urban Design Framework and Master Plan for the River and Coastal Communities with the assistance of MasterPlan and Outerspace Landscape Architects.

Following on from this project, Council has appointed the consultant team to work closely with each District Council of Grant inner township community to create a Master Plan for each location and a separate Strategic Land Use Plan.

The Inner Townships Master Plan project will be created with input from all residents and close consultation involving the following communities:

• Allendale East;
• Caveton;
• Compton;
• Glenburnie;
• Kongorong;
• Mil-Lel;
• Moorak;
• Mount Schank;
• OB Flat;
• Suttontown;
• Tarpeena;
• Worrolong;
• Yahl.

The project aims to identify what we value as a community, to ensure our much-loved sporting, active recreation, community spaces and neighbourhoods are accessible, connected, and inclusive, and to outline potential upgrades to infrastructure that will refresh public spaces and offer new experiences for visitors. It will also guide future development of private land and public spaces within its inner townships and communities.

Input from the community will provide a key basis for the Master Plan with outputs, actions, and priorities to be based on the needs identified in each community. Where previous work has been undertaken by community groups or Council with the community, this will also help inform each Master Plan.

The engagement process will be conducted in two phases:

Phase 1 – Initial Engagement

The initial phase of engagement commenced on 28 November and ran through to 22 December 2022. The focus of this engagement was to identify the vision, aspirations and goals of the various communities.

Phase 2 – Engagement on Draft Master Plans

The District Council of Grant and the consultant team are excited to share the draft Inner Townships Master Plan with the community and are asking for your feedback on the themes and key opportunities recommended within the plan.

Concurrently with the Inner Townships project, Council has also engaged MasterPlan to undertake a Strategic Land Use Priorities review. This project is focused on reviewing the supply and demand of land to accommodate future growth in the Council area, including land for residential, rural living, commercial and industrial uses.

This project has reviewed previous work undertaken by Council and will involve stakeholder and community engagement in early 2023.
