Background
In 2023, the District Council of Grant finalised its Inner Townships Master Plan, outlining future improvements to landscaping, shared-use paths, signage, play spaces and lighting across key public spaces. These planned upgrades aim to make each inner township more accessible, connected and welcoming, while also reflecting the unique character of each community and supporting a growing population.
As part of the Master Plan, Yahl was identified as a priority location for investment in its public spaces, particularly at Kennedy Park. The improvements propose celebrating the Yahl Soldiers Memorial Hall through upgraded feature paving and improved landscaping.
The Project
Council, in collaboration with the Yahl Soldiers Memorial Hall Committee, is now progressing elements of the Yahl Soldiers Memorial Hall upgrade at Kennedy Park, specifically upgrades to the Hall carparking. The proposed works include:
Construction of 22 sealed and kerbed car parking spaces, including two accessible parks
New concrete paths linking the carpark to the Hall entrance, barbecue area and toilets
Removal of five trees on the north-east corner of the site (adjacent to the Country Fire Service shed) and replanting of five or more native trees
Installation of two rain gardens to help capture and manage stormwater
Community members were invited to have their say on the proposed upgrades and works at the Yahl Soldiers Memorial Hall. Feedback closed on the 17th of December, 2025.The project was considered by Council at its Ordinary Meeting of 19 January 2026 with all feedback being included in the Council Report.
Works are anticipated to begin in early 2026.
