Have your say on the Blackfellows Caves, Donovans & Nene Valley playground upgrades.

The District Council of Grant have identified that some existing playground infrastructure within the area requires attention and Council are being proactive to repair, maintain and/or replace this equipment.

Playground upgrades have been included in Council’s major project works program for the 2022/2023 financial year, following the receival of Federal Government funding from Phase 3 of the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure (LRCI) Program.

The following locations are included in the project works package and will have works carried out to bring the existing playgrounds up to date/compliant with the Australian Standards:

  • Blackfellows Caves
  • Carpenter Rocks
  • Donovans
  • Kongorong
  • Mount Schank
  • Nene Valley
  • Port MacDonnell
  • Tarpeena
  • Yahl

Due to the significant works involved, Council will be seeking feedback from the community, in a staged engagement approach, to determine what equipment options will be best suited for those that require significant replacements.

Additional feedback is welcome for future improvements to the playground, however this feedback will be considered by Council in future budgets.

Residents and visitors of the Blackfellows Caves, Donovans and Nene Valley playgrounds are being asked to vote for their preferred playground equipment designs and colours.

Council staff have researched and considered equipment options for the playground based on availability, suitability, budget and on going maintenance.

The community is encouraged to review the playground options proposed and vote for your most preferred via a survey published below. A hard copy survey is downloadable in the documents section and can be picked up at Council's Principal Office and Port MacDonnell Community Complex.

Community consultation will be open between Friday, 18 November and Thursday, 8 December 2022.

Community members, visitors and regular users of the playground are encouraged to review the playground upgrade proposal and complete the survey indicating their preferred equipment.

Survey submissions will be accepted via the following methods:

District wide playground upgrades have been completed and were enjoyed by families in time for the Easter holiday period.

In September 2022, the District Council of Grant began engaging with our community to determine what equipment options would be best suited for playgrounds that required vital equipment replacements.

The aim of the playground upgrades was to repair, maintain and/or replace existing playground structures to ensure they are compliant with Australian Standards.

Council acknowledges the support of the Federal Government for providing crucial funding for the project through the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
